- This is REALLY a simple-minded game, patterned after the well-
- known computer game called `LIFE' -- you control a beaker-full
- of amoeba, [you begin with 10 amoeba in your beaker] ... you
- can place them anywhere on the 10x50 playing grid. Each night
- at midnight, the amoeba divide, multiply, and die. Your amoeba
- will die if 5 or more of the 8 adjacent squares are occupied by
- another amoeba (whether yours or not). For playing purposes the
- 10x50 grid `wraps' around top-to-bottom and left-to-right [e.g.
- square 1,1 is adjacent to 10,50]. When multiplying amoeba may
- split in any of 8 random directions. They eat anything they
- land on. You may `harvest' your amoeba, by picking them up. If
- you have amoeba on-hand, you may place them where you wish --
- even on top of another player (thus eating him). An amoeba
- that has eaten another will NOT reproduce for a day. If you run
- out of amoeba (because they're all eaten), you will be given 5
- more. If you place an amoeba ON another, you cannot pick it up
- until the next day. The game is over if anyone reaches a
- total > 100 amoeba, either in play or in combination with
- amoeba held off the playing field ... HINT: harvesting is a
- GOOD strategy to avoid die-offs!
-
- If your amoeba show in lowercase, then they CANNOT be picked
- up again, NOR will they multiply at the next midnight update.
